Jennifer Larson
Licensed Professional Counselor
I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) and National Certified Counselor (NCC) with more than 18 years in the mental health industry providing psychotherapy to individual adults, young adults, and couples who are experiencing barriers to personal, relational, and professional growth and fulfillment. My goal is to help others live a happier and more meaningful life.
I use a warm, strengths-based and yet, direct and challenging approach while drawing on psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, relational, mindfulness, and family systems theories. Additionally, I believe a key factor in achieving overall well-being and psychological health rests on developing and maintaining healthy boundaries as well as engaging in a good self-care regimen.
I also provide clinical supervision and consulting services for professionals.

Although I provide a variety of therapy and counseling services to individuals and couples, my Top 3 Specialized Services include:

Moreover, I completed a number of Certified Sex Addiction Therapists (CSAT) workshops offered by Dr. Patrick Carnes and his team at the International Institute for Trauma and Addiction Professionals (IITAP).
I also have significant experience and training working with young adults, and studied the Transition to Independence Process (TIP) with its founder Dr. "Rusty" Clark while working at Young Adult Services Department at Community Counseling Centers of Chicago (C4).
I have and continue to participate in marriage and couples training workshops through The Gottman Institute, a distinguished organization committed to increasing the understanding of relationships through research. Some course topics include Level 1 "Bridging the Couples Chasm", Level 2 "Assessment, Intervention, and Co-Morbidities" and 6 Modules "Making Marriages Work by Uncovering Secrets of Sex, Love, and Trust."
My professional background encompasses both the public and private sector. I have worked in social services at C4 and Thresholds as well as administered assessments for clinical trials at a number of organizations, including University of Wisconsin-Madison - Wisconsin Psychiatric Institute & Clinic (WISPIC).
A LITTLE PERSONAL
In addition to my formal training, I believe my rich and steeped life experiences as well as my upbringing and family dynamics have granted me the opportunity to understand people's trials and tribulations, suffering, and anxieties, and at the same time understand one's desire to work through one's issues. I am passionate about helping others overcome barriers and heal in order to live a more centered and happier existence.
I strive to seek and maintain balance in my life, nurturing all of areas of my life so I can feel centered within myself and with others. I enjoy cooking and being active with my family, dining at a variety of restaurants in the city, spending time with friends, and volunteering within the community.
