Susan Holcomb
Marriage/Family Therapist
Therapy is a chance for you to explore your feelings and thoughts, to gain a better understanding of yourself, and to make positive changes that will allow you to experience life more fully. I provide a safe environment for exploration and draw on my knowledge of theory and technique to help you access untapped or forgotten resources.
Due to the unique nature of each individual and the issues brought to therapy, I use an eclectic approach that utilizes the tools of many different theories, yet I generally view my work through the lens of Existential–Humanistic Psychology and Gestalt Psychotherapy. This is a perspective that focuses on emotion, growth, responsibility, choice and awareness. It is my belief that through a respectful, empathetic, therapeutic relationship you, the client, can acknowledge and explore processes, or structures, of living, that limit life, and ultimately you will be able to choose, with awareness, how to be in the world. This is an active, present centered, phenomenological approach to therapy.
I specialize in working with couples to help them discover intimacy, and redefine their relationships as they shift in response to individual growth, aging, trauma, and life transitions. I also offer premarital and divorce counseling, as well as individual therapy for adults and adolescents.
