Dora Finamore
Welcome to my website. You have taken the first step in changing your life. Counseling is a process where client and therapist work to identify and work on any issues you bring to our sessions. My approach to counseling involves helping you to identify strengths within yourself and developing self-awareness in order for you to make changes. I received a bachelor's degree in psychology from Monmouth University and a doctorate degree in counseling psychology from University of Sarasota/Argosy in 2000. I have been a professional counselor since 2002. I have successfully met the professional counseling standards established by the North Carolina Board of Licensed Professional Counselors (North Carolina Licensed Professional Counselor and New Jersey). My therapeutic approach is blending Cognitive Therapy developed by Aaron Beck, and Client Centered Therapy developed by Carl Rogers, PhD. These therapies are well established, researched, and respected within the profession. One of the important steps in counseling is establishing your goals for counseling. Along with your goals, the counseling plan will include the methods for achieving your goals, risks and benefits of treatments, the approximate time commitment involved, costs, limits of confidentiality and other aspects of your particular situation. Before going further, I expect us to agree on a plan to which we will both adhere. Periodically, we will re-evaluate our progress and, if necessary, redesign our counseling plan, goals, and methods. Counseling includes your active involvement. You will have to work both in and out of the counseling sessions. There are no instant, painless, or passive cures. As with any powerful intervention, there are both benefits and risks associated with counseling and therapy. I look forward to speaking with you soon, so please, schedule an appointment today. If you like, you can contact me, and we can spend 15 minutes reviewing the process before we schedule an appointment. I hope to hear from you today.
